The Tweed Ride on 26 April 2026 is a community cycling event hosted by Cabarita Beach & Pottsville Beach Lions Club to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer. Riders of all abilities will enjoy a 66km route through the Tweed countryside including the Northern Rivers Rail Trail and quiet roads with support stops. Funds assist the Lions Prostate Cancer Research & Treatment Project and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to promote research and education.

Lion’s 66km Tweed Coast Pedal For Prostates

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in Australia, with 26,000 new cases and nearly 4,000 deaths in 2024, and 1 in 5 men will face a diagnosis in their lifetime. Since 2004, Lions Clubs across Australia have partnered with the Mater Hospital Brisbane to support research and treatment, including a $160,000 donation in 2025 by the Lions Prostate Cancer Research & Treatment Project

  • Prostate cancer is the leading cancer diagnosis among Australian men
  • 26,000 new cases were diagnosed in 2024 and nearly 4,000 lives were lost
  • 1 in 5 men face a lifetime risk of prostate cancer
  • Lions Clubs have supported prostate cancer initiatives with the Mater Hospital since 2004
  • Funds raised help research and awareness via national cancer organisations and community events

Promoting Prostate Cancer Awareness Bike Ride Tweed Valley and Tweed Coast

Ride the Northern Rivers Rail Trail and roads with minimal traffic

Starting at 8am this 66km Tweed ride suits E-bikes, easy riders and serious cyclists on a mostly flat, low-traffic route known as Route 66. Roads are sealed except for 1km of Round Mountain Road, with mixed surfaces on the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. Riders begin at Pottsville Park, travel through Hastings Point and Murwillumbah, then follow the Rail Trail via Stokers Siding, Burringbar, Mooball and Crabbes Creek before returning along Wooyung Road and the coast to Pottsville. Along the way there are cafés, bike repairs, bike rental options and the Margaret Olley Art Gallery as a cultural stop.

Rest stops, water stations and recovery support

The Lions Club will set up and operate rest stops with water stations,
recovery support, educational stalls, first aid and/or bicycle repair
service at 3 locations:

  • At the start/finish in Pottsville Park in Philip Street
  • After 25km at the Murwillumbah Railway Station at the start of the Rail Trail
  • After 45km in either Burringbar or Mooball

The Lions Club will set up and operate rest stops with water stations,
recovery support, educational stalls, first aid and/or bicycle repair
service at 3 locations:

Participants will:

  • Register via Cabarita Beach & Pottsville Beach Lions website
  • Provide personal information and emergency contact details
  • Require their own insurance
    Sign a Liability Waiver
  • Pay a participation fee ($50 adults / children under 18 free)
  • Have the option to buy an event T-shirt
  • Provide their own bicycle (or rent one)
  • Be encouraged to buy raffle tickets along the way
  • Receive a course booklet including route description, sponsor info (bike shops,
    cafes, restaurants) points of interest and emergency information (pdf sent by
    email, hardcopies available on the day)
  • Have access to prostate cancer information and advice
